6 of 7

2. Mark Clayton (2001-2004)

Stats: 3,239 receiving yards, 31 receiving touchdowns, one punt return for a touchdown, 14.7 yards per catch

Accomplishments: 2002 and 2004 Big 12 Champion, 2002 Rose Bowl Champion, 2003 and 2004 All-American, 2003 Biletnikoff Award Finalist

Clayton was a clear choice for the second spot. In his time with Oklahoma, he was the main option for Jason White’s 2003 Heisman campaign, and helped Oklahoma get to back-to-back National Championship games.

He led the team in receiving yards his junior and senior season, and while he didn’t win the Biletnikoff Award, Clayton was an outstanding playmaker that could haul in the long ball.

Clayton’s receiving abilities aided some of the best OU team’s of the era, and Jason White was thankful to have Clayton as a target. On the other hand, OU’s biggest rival Texas was not a fan of Clayton, who was a member of four of the five OU teams that beat the Longhorns five years straight.

He was a talented receiver, who was drafted in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. Clayton’s legacy would only be outdone by one other Oklahoma receiver.
