Top Five Oklahoma Sooners Wide Receivers of the BCS Era

4 of 7

4. Malcolm Kelly (2005-2007)

Stats: 2,285 receiving yards, 21 receiving touchdowns, averaged 15.9 yards per catch

Accomplishments: 2006 and 2007 Big 12 Champion, 2006 Big 12 Championship Game MVP, 2005 Freshman All-American (The Sporting News), 2006 and 2007 All-Big 12 First Team

Kelly was dirty on the field, as well as spitting freestyles. He made an instant impact with the team as a freshman, and for a three-year player, Kelly put up monster numbers while in school.

Standing at 6’4″ with a great pair of hands, there’s no question why Kelly was so successful at Oklahoma. One-on-one, Kelly was able to get big grabs and found the end-zone often.

One of his most memorable moments as a Sooner was catching a 35-yard touchdown pass to secure Oklahoma’s 2007 victory over the Texas Longhorns to end OU’s Red River drought. That same year he put up 102 receiving yards and caught two touchdowns in a rout of “The U,” Miami Hurricanes.

Kelly, like Saunders, has to be up here for his value to the team. He was a force on offense the minute he stepped on to campus. His size and athleticism were a big part of that.

He was dinged up in the Fiesta Bowl against West Virginia, which kept him from performing at the NFL combine. Regardless, Kelly was taken with the 51st overall pick in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft to the Washington Redskins.
