Top Five Oklahoma Sooner Running Backs of the BCS Era
By Joe Buettner
4. Chris Brown (2006-2009)
Stats: 2,923 rushing yards, 627 carries, 42 rushing touchdowns
Accomplishments: 2006, 2007, and 2008 Big 12 Champion
Hailing from Louisiana, Brown was an instrumental part to Oklahoma’s success in the late 2000’s. His career overlapped the times of Adrian Peterson and Demarco Murray, which somewhat cast a shadow on Brown. Though, his stats speak for themselves.
In 2008, Oklahoma’s high-powered offense featured Brown’s gritty running abilities. While he only stands at 5’10”, Brown led the Big 12 in rushing touchdowns in 2008 with 20, which was the fourth-highest in the NCAA that season.
Brown and the 2008 Sooners couldn’t win a National Championship that year, but it still to this day remains the highest-scoring offense college football has ever seen. Brown was a big part of that, and minus his freshman season, Brown was a staple in Oklahoma’s rushing attack for the last three seasons of his college career.
