Red-Eye Rewind: Baseball goes off, Pack the Place Pink, Gymnasts take honors
By Joe Buettner
The Red-Eye Rewind is going to be something new I’ll try out here on the site. Every day (hopefully) we will give you a recap of the previous day’s events and what’s on deck for that particular day. If you’re busy one day, this is the best way to catch up and keep up with the Oklahoma Sooners.
Baseball crushes Arkansas-Pine Bluff
In their fourth game of the year, the Sooners dominated the Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 16-6 rout.
Hunter Haley went yard with his first at bat, picking up two early runs with Craig Aikin on base.
Oklahoma would finish the inning with a commanding 7-0 lead. Oklahoma sustained its lead throughout the rest of the game, despite a five-run burst by the Golden Lions in the fourth, however, the Sooners matched those five runs in the bottom of that inning.
Oklahoma scored 15 runs against the Seton Hall Pirates Sunday, and there was no letting up in this one either. The Sooners improve to 3-1 with the win, and host the Golden Lions today at 3 p.m. before they head to the UCF Tournament this weekend in Orlando.
OU hosts Texas, pack the LNC pink
The OU womens basketball team did not see the same kind of success the mens team did against Oklahoma State this past weekend. They will try to redeem themselves tonight against the unranked Texas Longhorns.
It will be pink out with every chair possessing a pink shirt. Wear it proudly, and cheer on an OU womens hoops team looking for some consistency and a spot in the NCAA tournament.
The game starts at 6:30 p.m. CST, and if you can not make it to the Lloyd Noble Center, it will be televised on FSN.
Womens gymnastics back on top
The Sooners womens gymnastics team was ranked no. 1 in the country Monday. And the once again top-ranked Sooners swept the Big 12 weekly awards.
Sophomore Haley Scaman, for the second week in the row, won the honor of Big 12 Gymnast of the Week. Senior Madison Mooning became the third different OU gymnast to take home the Event Specialist of the Week. And freshman Chayse Capps took home her fourth Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award, only losing the title two times this season.
The Sooners will compete against Alabama, Michigan, and West Virginia this Friday at the Perfect 10 Challenge in Oklahoma City. The competition will begin at 7 p.m., and features three top-ten teams.
