While awaiting what is anticipated to be another huge recruiting announcement on Sunday, the Oklahoma football program picked up its first 2023 commitment on Saturday.
Four-star running back Treyaun Webb announced his commitment on Saturday to play at Oklahoma.
Webb, from Jacksonville, Florida, is rated as the No. 13 prospect in the state of Florida and No. 68 nationally by 247Sports. As a junior at Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Webb posted 837 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns and also played on defense. He was previously committed to Georgia, but asked out of that in January,
He had narrowed his final choices down to three schools — Oklahoma, Georgia and Ohio State — and on Saturday opted to pledge his allegiance to the Sooners.
Webb is listed by both 247Sports and Rivals as an athlete, but Oklahoma is recruiting him as a running back.
Webb told reporters, including Ton VanHaaren of ESPN, that he visited all three schools in June and that his visit to Ohio State put the Buckeyes in good standing, but his following visit to Oklahoma put the Sooners over the top.
Webb said the explosiveness of the Oklahoma offense under Lincoln Riley and the fact that the Sooners were recruiting him as a running back were huge factors in his decision to choose the Sooners.
“The coaches, family, tradition and the people — Oklahoma, when I went up there, they accepted me with open arms, and it felt like home,” Webb said.
Oklahoma is hoping to get a second commitment for 2023 on Sunday, when five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson, the No. 2 quarterback in the class, is expected to announce his decision.
