Even though he's coaching a football team in the state now, Bob Stoops' hatred for Texas will still never disappear.
Four years after retiring as Oklahoma's football coach, Stoops took over the XFL's Arlington Renegades, which are now part of the UFL. The Renegades are off to a 2-0 start in the spring football season after wins over the other two Texas teams in the league.
Bob Stoops reminds he's a former Oklahoma Sooners coach when asked about Texas after UFL win
After Arlington's 11-9 win against the Houston Roughnecks on Sunday, Stoops was asked during the postgame press conference if he had any pride about being the UFL's state champion of Texas.
"You can't get an Oklahoma former head coach to say it," Stoops jokingly answered. "I've had my share of wins against Texas teams."

It's fair to say @CoachBobStoops is no stranger to winning in Texas with @OU_Football and now the @XFLRenegades ⬇️@Gatorade pic.twitter.com/J5PQmSESdi
In his 18 seasons leading the Sooners, Stoops was 11-7 against the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry. Playing in the Big 12 then, that also doesn't include OU's dominance over the likes of Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU and Baylor under Stoops. And not to mention all those recruiting battles Stoops won to lure Texas talent like Adrian Peterson.
Stoops is in his fourth season as the Renegades' head coach. He took over in 2020, but after the XFL went under after just one season, the Renegades had a hiatus before joining the UFL in 2023 when the XFL and USFL joined forces.
The Renegades won the XFL championship in 2023 under Stoops before struggling last season.
This season, with a roster full of former Sooners, the Renegades are 2-0 so far with victories over the Roughnecks and San Antonio Brahmas. Next, the Renegades will play the Birmingham Stallions at 7 p.m. CT Friday.
