Oklahoma completed the 2025 diamond sweep over Bedlam rival Oklahoma State on Tuesday with an 11-1 baseball win in eight innings under the mercy rule.
The four-time defending national champion Sooner softball team had a similar win over No. 18 Oklahoma State a week ago, prevailing 11-3 in five innings.
The No. 18 OU baseball team began Tuesday night's game in Stillwater with four straight singles, opening the door for a five-run inning that knocked Cowboy starter Ryan Ure out of the game after just one inning.
The Sooners (26-10) extended their advantage to 6-0 on a two-out double by Sam Christiansen in the fourth inning that scored Jaxon Willits from second base. Oklahoma State (16-18) got on the scoreboard on a solo home run by Colin Brueggemann leading off the bottom of the fourth.
That would be the only run the Cowboys would score as four Oklahoma pitchers held OSU to just four hits while striking out nine. The Sooners shortened the game scoring five more times in the eighth, the big blow coming on a grand-slam home run by sophomore center fielder Jason Walk, his sixth round-tripper of the season.
Christiansen and Walk combined to drive in seven of the Sooners' 11 runs off seven Oklahoma State pitchers. Freshman Jaden Barfield started the game for Oklahoma, allowing no runs, no hits and striking out two hitters over two innings. Southpaw reliever James Hitt worked three hitless innings and was awarded the win, his first of the season.
The Sooners will have just one day off before resuming conference play on Thursday, traveling to Missouri for a three-game series (Thursday through Saturday) against the Tigers (13-23, 0-15), who have yet to win a conference game.
Notable notes from Sooners' Bedlam baseball win
- Tuesday's win over rival Oklahoma State offered some redemption for the Sooners, who had lost four of five meetings with the Cowboys a year ago in OU's final season in the Big 12. Oklahoma State leads the all-time series with Oklahoma, 170-154.
- Starter Jaden Barfield made his first start for Oklahoma. His previous 11 appearances this season were all in relief.
- Of Oklahoma's 11 total hits in the game, only two were for extra bases (a double by Sam Christiansen in the fourth and the grand slam by Jason Walk in the eighth).
- Jason Walk's grand slam was Oklahoma's first of the season.
- In addition to allowing 11 hits, three Oklahoma State errors, seven walks and a hit batter contributed to the Cowboys' loss. It was the first time Oklahoma had defeated OSU by run-rule since 2006.
- Oklahoma added to its stolen-base lead in the SEC, stealing seven bags in the win over Oklahoma State. OU's 89 stolen bases ranks 14th-best nationally.
