It’s a new conference this season for the Oklahoma Sooners, but they’re still after the same result.
With one week left in the college softball regular season, the Sooners have the clearest path to clinch the SEC regular-season championship in their first season in the conference after ruling the Big 12 the past decade-plus.
OU took the top spot in the SEC standings with a 16-5 conference record after sweeping Texas last weekend at Love’s Field. While the sweep catapulted the Sooners, it dropped the Longhorns out of title contention.
With Texas out of the conversation now, it’s down to three teams with a chance to win the SEC regular-season crown with one week left — OU, Texas A&M and Tennessee. No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 5 Tennessee will meet this weekend in Knoxville, while OU heads to No. 6 Florida.
Whoever comes out on top of the trio will earn the 1-seed at next week’s SEC Softball Tournament in Athens, Georgia.

Scenarios for each to team to clinch
Oklahoma: Just win, baby. No matter what Tennessee and Texas A&M do, the Sooners can clinch things with a series win against Florida in Gainesville starting Thursday night.
Dropping two of three, though, would force OU to sweat it just a little bit. But if the Sooners are on the wrong end of a sweep, then it’s second place.
Texas A&M: First, the Aggies need the Sooners to lose their series. If Florida wins, then Texas A&M can finish first with a sweep of Tennessee. But if the Gators sweep, then the Aggies just need to win two of three.
Tennessee: Like the Aggies, the Vols will also be cheering for the Gators. It’s the same situation — either a Gators win + Vols sweep or a Gators sweep + Vols win.
