What Brent Venables thought of Dabo Swinney's impression of him

Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables didn't even need to hear Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney's impression of him to know it was a good one.

During the Sooners' bye week, Venables made a trip on Saturday to Clemson, where he was defensive coordinator under Swinney in 2012-21, to watch his son Tyler play for the Tigers. Outside of Venables turning heads being decked out in Clemson gear on the sideline, Swinney's impression of Venables during his postgame press conference drew the most attention from Venables' visit.

Swinney said after the game that he asked Venables on the sideline for some advice midgame on what play he thought might be coming on a 2nd-and-long, then delivered a spot-on impression of Venables while imitating his famous raspy voice.

"Probably a screen or draw," Swinney jokingly yelled.

Venables had his own weekly press conference on Monday before the Sooners' trip to play Alabama on Saturday when he was finally able to be asked about his thoughts on Swinney's impression of him. Venables, who is never active on social media, said someone told him about the impression, but he hadn't actually watched it yet. However, even without even hearing it, Venables already knew Swinney did a good job.

"He's got me down," Venables said. "He's gotten about everybody down. He's good at the impressions."

Apparently Venables was correct in pointing out Swinney's talent with impressions. Clemson beat writer Jon Blau posted a compilation of Swinney's impressions on X to back up Venables' statement.
