What Baker Mayfield would have spent his NIL money on at Oklahoma

Of course he would.

Baker Mayfield is absolutely a dude's dude, even in hypothetical realities.

Mayfield was recently a guest on the "New Heights" podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, and the Kelce brothers asked Mayfield what he would have spent his NIL money on if he had gotten it while he was the quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners.

"I would had gotten a nice football house for the fellas," Mayfield immediately answered. "Not necessarily as far as the 'Blue Mountain State' spectrum, but like a football house for the boys."

However, Mayfield did also admit he's glad NIL wasn't around when he was in college because he wouldn't trust himself with that much money while in college. Don't think Mayfield never got paid, though. According to Spotrac, Mayfield is set to make $30,000,000 this season as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' starting quarterback. His NFL career earnings are at $87,756,674.

In June, the House v. NCAA settlement not only made it legal for universities to start directly paying student-athletes, but also part of the agreement was $2.8 billion in back payments for athletes who competed between 2016 and 2024, which would include Mayfield's final two seasons at OU.

After that news broke, I listed former OU athletes who were most deserving of their back pay, and Mayfield was instantly the top choice. He was made for the NIL era before we even knew it existed.

Mayfield was a blast to watch on the field as the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner, he had the incredible backstory as the first walk-on to win the Heisman and he has a personality that's even more fun off the field. His antics like planting the flag at Ohio Stadium after beating Ohio State would have made Mayfield the richest man in Norman if NIL was legal then.
