The Oklahoma Sooners still have more work to do to get back inside the top 25.
The Sooners were still on the outside looking in of the latest Associated Press Top 25 that was released Monday. OU received two votes this week, which is actually down from the three the Sooners earned last week.
OU still didn't receive any votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
There was a chance the Sooners (16-5) might sneak back into the rankings after dismantling then-No. 24 Vanderbilt 97-67 on Saturday. However, OU also suffered a loss during the week to then-No. 13 Texas A&M, 75-68.
Plenty of opportunity awaits the Sooners, though. With the latest rankings, OU will get a crack at two top-5 teams this week.
The Sooners will travel to No. 1 Auburn at 8 p.m. CT Tuesday night. No. 4 Tennessee will then be in Norman on Saturday morning.
The Volunteers just jumped four spots into the top 5 after upsetting (and handling) then-No. 5 Florida 64-44 on Saturday.
Auburn, meanwhile, is on a 13-game winning streak and 8-0 in SEC play.
With the Sooners knocking Vanderbilt out of the top 25, the SEC now has nine ranked teams, according to the AP Top 25, which is still the most among all conferences.
Ranked SEC teams include No. 1 Auburn, No. 3 Alabama, No. 4 Tennessee, No. 6 Florida, No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 14 Kentucky, No. 15 Missouri, No. 22 Mississippi State and No. 25 Ole Miss.
That loaded conference has the Sooners in the midst of a run against five straight ranked teams, including last week's matchups with Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.
