A trio of former Oklahoma Sooners are up for Hall of Fame status.

Three former OU players were included on the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame ballot that the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced on Monday. Sooners included were quarterback Josh Heupel, linebacker Rocky Calmus and linebacker George Cumby.

NFF members and current NFF Hall of Famers will vote on the ballot to help determine the 2026 class. The 2026 Hall of Fame class will be announced in early 2026.

Here's a look at all three nominees from Oklahoma.

Now known more for his coaching success, Josh Heupel has only ever won a national championship as a player at OU.

Heupel led the Sooners to their last national title in 2000 as OU's quarterback. That same season, he was the Heisman Trophy runner-up, Walter Camp Player of the Year, Big 12 Player of the Year and consensus First-Team All-American.

He spent only two seasons at OU after transferring from the junior college ranks, but still left with nearly every program passing record.

Although worthy of getting in as a player, Heupel could also someday get in the CFB Hall of Fame as a coach if he keeps up his current success at Tennessee.

Rocky Calmus was also a part of that last national championship team, but on the other side of the ball at linebacker.

Calmus is still a fan favorite among Sooner Nation as OU's all-time leader in tackles for loss with 59. He was the 2001 Butkus Award winner, 2000 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and two-time consensus First-Team All-American.

Another linebacker, but from further back in the day.

George Cumby was a defensive staple at OU in the late 1970s. He was a two-time First-Team All-American, two-time Big Eight Defensive Player of the Year and a part of four Big Eight championship teams. And he accomplished all that after starting his college career as a fullback his first season before converting to linebacker.
