The best 2027 recruit in the state of Oklahoma will stay home after all.

Just weeks after following the money to Texas Tech, five-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett, from Fort Gibson High School, flipped his commitment to the Sooners on Thursday morning. According to Rivals' Steve Wiltfong, Hackett took a "good chunk less" to go to OU instead of Texas Tech.

Ultimately, Hackett bet on himself and the road to the NFL going through Norman.

“If I’m in the NFL, which is what I want to do overall, that money is not going to matter and I’m going to bet on myself a good amount of the time and that’s what I’m doing," Hackett told Rivals.

Hackett committed to Texas Tech late on the night of Aug. 30 while he was visiting Lubbock, Texas, during Week 1 of the NFL season. However, Hackett was in Norman for the Sooners' last two home games when they beat Michigan and Auburn.

He also held offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and more.

Listed at 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds, Hackett is the No. 3 offensive tackle and No. 10 overall prospect in the 2027 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. That also makes him the best prospect in the state of Oklahoma, which is a huge win for the Sooners after missing on top in-state recruits from the 2026 class.

The Sooners' stellar 4-0 start has influenced a tremendous jolt to their 2027 recruiting class, with Hackett being the third commitment, and then his announcement was immediately followed by Bixby High School offensive tackle Kaeden Penny, who's the No. 2 prospect in the state, also choosing the Sooners.

Luke Wilson, a three-star tackle from Southlake Carroll High School, was the the Sooners' first commitment from the 2027 class last month.

It's still early, but, according to the 247Sports Composite, the Sooners already have the No. 9 recruiting class in the country for 2027.
