Most every college football fan recognizes the Oklahoma Sooners as an iconic national brand. When you have seven national championships, tied for the third most all time, and seven Heisman Trophy winners (tied for second most), you earn the right to own that distinction.
What many Sooner fans are not fully aware of, though, is that the Sooners' national accolades in football extend well beyond national crowns and Heisman recipients.
Oklahoma football ranks in the top five all-time in college football in at least a dozen statistical categories and has been the national leader in several others since 2000, which not coincidentally was the season after Bob Stoops became the Sooners' head coach and led them to their seventh and most recent national championship.
