Friday was supposed to be the last time Sooner Nation endured a loss together in 2024. Then the sun rose the next day and there was even more grieving.
ESPN's Pete Thamel broke the news Saturday that now former Oklahoma defensive coordinator Zac Alley was leaving for West Virginia. The Mountaineers have since officially announced Alley as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator under new head coach Rich Rodriguez, who was also Alley's boss at Jacksonville State.
Rumors of Alley's departure swirled during the week leading up to the Sooners' matchup with Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl. OU ultimately lost to the Midshipmen 21-20 on Friday to finish the season at 6-7.
So after going to X after one last loss on the field Friday, Sooner Nation was back on social media again the rest of the weekend after losing Alley to West Virginia.
There was frustration, humor, confusion and more as the OU faithful endured even more misfortune in 2024.
And just as we thought the hurt was all over.
After the second losing season in three years and coordinators leaving for a Big 12 program, a chunk of Sooner Nation is certainly not optimistic about the state of OU football under Brent Venables.
Sooner Nation is starting to think these issues go up to the top, as in above Brent Venables.
Zac Alley still gets the most hate, though.
