Sooner Nation couldn’t believe it was Otega Oweh AGAIN

It could have been anyone but Otega Oweh.

After so many letdowns late in games, it looked as if the Oklahoma Sooners would finally be on the other side of things against Kentucky in the second round of the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament. But then instead, it was what Sooner Nation has watched unfold again and again and again, and it was even the same guy.

The Sooners trailed by 10 with 1:26 left, but narrowed the margin to 83-77 with 41 seconds left. Then freshman Jeremiah Fears was Superman with a 3-pointer, steal, assist, steal, then finally a layup that put the Sooners ahead 84-83 with six seconds left.

But then Sooner Nation watched the sequel, and the second is always worse than the first (unless it's the Avengers).

Oweh, who transferred to Kentucky from OU during the offseason, got the inbound with six seconds left. He raced down the right side of the court, and like a running back with a great offensive line, effortlessly got to the goal and made the game-winning layup. Again.

Just two weeks ago, Oweh returned to Lloyd Noble Center for the first time since calling that place home for two years. He scored a career-high 28 points and was responsible for Kentucky's final 18 points, including the game-winner.

In the second meeting Thursday night into Friday morning, Oweh nearly matched his career-high with 27 points. Those two games against OU are the only times in his career that Oweh has scored more than 25 points. He averages 16.5 this season.

The second loss to Kentucky ended the Sooners' three-game winning streak, but not before they were able to get back into the mix to make the NCAA Tournament. Now, OU will wait for Selection Sunday to learn its next destination.
