Only in the SEC do teams get the higher seed and still have to take on teams as underdogs.
The 2025 SEC Baseball Tournament bracket was revealed with the Oklahoma Sooners as the 12-seed and getting a brutal draw. OU will get the 13-seed Kentucky Wildcats in the first round for its tournament debut.
Sooners get 12-seed and Kentucky to start SEC Baseball Tournament
Just over a week ago, the Wildcats swept OU in Lexington, Kentucky, in the Sooners' second-to-last series of the regular season. The Sooners then dropped two of three to the Texas Longhorns last weekend.
Despite that series sweep to Kentucky, the Sooners still finished higher in SEC standings because of their 14-16 confrence record, compared to Kentucky's 13-17. Mississippi State, which OU took two of three from this season, finished at No. 11 ahead of OU at 15-15.
That's the epitome of the SEC Baseball Tournament that will surely prepare the Sooners for the NCAA tournament and whatever it holds.
The SEC Baseball Tournament is loaded with 10 teams that were included in the most recent D1Baseball Top 25. That also includes three of the top-5 squads. LSU is the No. 1 team in the country this week, but the 3-seed in the SEC. Texas is the 1-seed as the regular-season champion, but No. 2 in national rankings.
The top-4 seeds, which include Texas, Arkansas, LSU and Vanderbilt, respectively, get two byes straight to the quarterfinals. The Sooners will need to win two games to get to that point before facing fresh arms while already down two starting pitchers.
The SEC Baseball Tournament will start on Tuesday morning in Hoover, Alabama. The Sooners will take on Kentucky in Game 2, which will start 30 minutes after the end of Game 1, which is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. CT.
If the Sooners get revenge on Kentucky, it would be another early morning on Wednesday against 5-seed Georgia, which took two of three from OU this season.
