Robert Griffin III might have won a Heisman Trophy himself as Baylor's quarterback, but apparently he still can't pick a true Heisman contender out of a lineup.
Most likely seeking attention he no longer gets with his playing days over, RG3 released a ranking of nine players he believes are currently Heisman frontrunners after Week 2, but despite Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer clearly emerging as a favorite, RG3 left Mateer completely off his list.

It's a list full of quarterbacks, and Mateer has more passing yards and total yards than everyone but Baylor's Sawyer Robertson on the list. However, Sawyer has already suffered a loss to Auburn Week 1, while Mateer has the Sooners at 2-0 after a massive win over Michigan, after which he was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week.
After two weeks, Mateer has accounted for 760 total yards as the best true dual-threat QB in college football so far. Anyone respectable in the college football world has ranked Mateer as a top-3 Heisman contender already, along with LSU's Garrett Nussmeier. However, RG3 also has Nussmeier down at No. 5 on his list.
In RG3's defense, though, the Heisman Trophy is about more than just stats. At times it becomes a popularity contest based on the logo on a helmet, stepping up in big moments and an entire team having success. However, even that doesn't defend RG3 in having South Florida's Byrum Brown at the top of his list. An American conference schedule doesn't mold Heisman Trophy winners.
Most of the time, lists like this don't matter, especially this early in the season. However, as a former winner, RG3 actually does have a vote in who wins the Heisman, so his oblivious opinion and head-scratching list actually does have weight. The hope, though, is that RG3's opinion changes by November, or he's just putting out this ridiculous list for attention.
