A fall is coming for the Oklahoma Sooners.
The Sooners lost to an unranked Michigan team 17-10 on Saturday in Ann Arbor, so that No. 11 next to their name will be a much larger number after the next AP Top 25 Poll is released on Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Wolverines should be back inside the top 25 after getting completely dropped out because of last week's controversial win over Western Michigan.
Ann Arbor wasn't the only place where chaos ensued during Week 2 of the 2026 college football season. Bedlam rival Oklahoma State did the unthinkable and beat No. 6 Oregon just a week after losing to Tulsa. Texas mounted a comeback to take down No. 1 Ohio State in a top-5 battle in Austin. Alabama, Texas Tech, Penn State and Iowa also all flirted with upsets.
After an unpredictable week of college football, here's to predicting how voters will rank teams after the chaos.
Projecting the AP Top 25 Poll after Week 2
Oregon was flat-out dominated by the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater. Even Dan Lanning said after the game that things weren't as close as the 39-31 score shows.
It seems the Ducks aren't the dominant title contenders everyone predicted them to be (including me), and might not even deserve to be ranked anymore. OSU hadn't beaten an FBS team in two years before Saturday.
Voters, though, will still slip Oregon just inside the top 25 despite the ugly loss and lackluster performance against Boise State last week. If you want my opinion, I say put the Tulsa Golden Hurricane here after beating the Cowboys in Week 1.
Louisville bounced back from a close loss to Ole Miss with an easy 59-13 win over Villanova. The Cardinals get SMU next for a chance to either climb with a win or be unranked with a loss.
You already know what happened to the Sooners. OU will suffer more since Michigan wasn't ranked at the time of the game, but the Wolverines should still be viewed as a top-25 loss. What this does do, though, is put the Sooners in danger of being unranked if they lose to Georgia in two weeks. Or even worse, if they struggle with New Mexico next.
Missouri eventually put Kansas away 38-21 in a renewal of the Border War in Lawrence. The Tigers will stay put with Troy up next.
We don't know how good 2-0 Houston really is yet, but we'll have an idea next week after a trip to Texas Tech.
Iowa edged out Iowa State 16-13. It was unimpressive, just like the Hawkeyes always are, but they'll remain in their usual 20-25 range.
Washington narrowly beat Utah State 16-14, but the Huskies will stay where they are since there was other movement and they avoided a loss.
Arkansas is probably the worst team in the SEC, but Utah still put it on the Razorbacks in a late-night beatdown. Still no reason to catapult the Utes yet.
This is likely more generous than where Michigan will actually end up in the top 25, but after beating the No. 11 Sooners, the Wolverines deserve to be at least close to where they were before last week's free fall. More respect for Michigan also means more respect for OU.
Tennessee notched a respectable 45-24 win over Georgia Tech. The Vols will then likely improve to 3-0 with Kennesaw State next.
Penn State struggled with Temple before eventually pulling away with a 27-9 win. That outcome won't move the needle much either way, but the poor showing could be enough to get leapfrogged by SMU.
SMU, which beat Florida State last week, will make a jump not because it hammered UC Davis 56-10, but because OU and Oregon fell, plus Penn State was underwhelming.
BYU took care of Arizona 28-17 in some early Big 12 action. It wasn't easy, but the Cougars keep winning to keep climbing.
USC doesn't deserve to be this high, but the Trojans are national media darlings, so they will keep moving up, no matter how lackluster their opponents are.
Texas Tech had its hands full with Oregon State before pulling through 35-24. It wasn't a strong outing, but still probably wasn't noticeable enough for the Red Raiders to get jumped.
Alabama was on upset alert, until it wasn't. The Crimson Tide will move inside the top 10 thanks to OU and Oregon's losses after their 45-17 win against Kentucky.
The Aggies cruised past Arizona State 48-20. If Texas A&M survives a dangerous Kentucky next, the Aggies will keep on climbing.
This will solidify the highly anticipated matchup between Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin's LSU will be a top-10 clash on Saturday. Get the popcorn.
This still might be too far of a drop for Ohio State after barely losing to Texas 24-23 in Austin. The Buckeyes will be back in the top 5 soon enough.
LSU toyed with Louisiana Tech for a bit before pulling away with a 45-14 win. Now, Kiffin faces his old team as a top-10 squad.
Miami has looked unfair when playing, but the Hurricanes also haven't played anyone worth noting. That won't change with Wake Forest next.
Indiana also hasn't faced a real challenge, but the defending champion is still undefeated and worthy of a top-5 ranking.
Notre Dame beat Wisconsin in Week 1, then just hammered Rice 52-0. Michigan State is next. The Fighting Irish could eventually be No. 1 just by beating up on a weaker schedule.
Georgia has looked like the best team in college football so far, but the Bulldogs haven't played anyone good enough to prove they're worthy of the No. 1 spot.
Cover your ears, Sooner Nation. Texas earned this top spot Saturday night with a 24-23 comeback win over Ohio State, which was previously No. 1. The good news is that the Sooners could now get a No. 1 Texas team to take down at the Red River Rivalry.
