Power ranking Oklahoma and its opponents as the Sooners are closer to the bottom than the top

Considering that unranked Oklahoma's 12-team schedule currently has seven ranked squads on it, you know the Sooners are going to be near the back of the pack since they can't keep up in 2026.

The Sooners sit at 2-2 during their bye week after getting blown out by No. 2 Georgia 41-13 on Saturday in Athens. Next are the top-ranked Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry on Oct. 10 in Dallas.

Everything is painting a grim picture for the rest of 2026 for the Sooners, and it's even more eye-opening when you see where they rank among the teams they actually have to play, not just nationally or in the SEC.

Texas has the best resume in college football after adding a top-15 road win over Tennessee to pair with a victory it already had over then-No. 1 Ohio State. The silver lining to this is that the Sooners next week get the chance to knock the Longhorns down from their peak.

The Sooners just learned firsthand that the Bulldogs' bite is just as powerful as their bark. Georgia might even be a better team than Texas, but it still needs an impressive win or two to prove it.

The Gators jump four spots to No. 3 after being at No. 7 in last week's power rankings. They earned it after dismantling Ole Miss 52-28 in The Swamp.

I'm a believer in what Jeff Lebby is doing at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs have a potent offense that has them able to compete with anyone, mostly thanks to a Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback in Kamario Taylor.

We'll learn everything we need to know about Mississippi State this week, when it hosts Alabama in Starkville.

Ole Miss had a rough day at The Swamp in a 52-28 loss to Florida, but it's no doubt still a real CFP contender, as long as its backfield of quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy stays healthy.

Kentucky didn't do anything special by beating South Alabama 45-21, but the Wildcats still climbed three losses because of losses by OU, Missouri and Michigan.

Missouri went toe to toe with Mississippi State in a 31-24 loss on the road. There's a fair argument that the Tigers are still overrated, but they have the weapons on offense and the head coach leading them to compete with just about anybody.

What more is there to say about the Sooners, especially their offense? The defense is still great, but it's hard to imagine they can beat any team ahead of them without scoring more points.

Texas A&M and OU could be tied for that ninth spot. These are both teams that had high expectations coming into 2026, but already sit at 2-2 and see their CFP chances fading fast.

Could the Lobos beat South Carolina if they played? I'm not sure, but I definitely wouldn't put my own money on the Gamecocks surviving New Mexico after what we witnessed in Norman.

Thanks to Arkansas in the SEC and UTEP here, South Carolina will never be at the bottom of power rankings, but the Gamecocks are in the same tier, and things could go even further south after Shane Beamer is inevitably fired.

There's doubt UTEP is the worst team OU will play in 2026, proven by that 51-0 blowout as the Sooners struggle to score against anybody else.
