The Oklahoma Sooners are a victim of the most loaded conference in recent college basketball history. The Big 12 is always a gauntlet, but as teams like Texas and Oklahoma who are heading to the SEC next season, overlap with their replacements BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston, it’s turned into a complete bloodbath.
Oklahoma has lost three of its last four heading into Tuesday night’s matchup with No. 21 BYU who is 4-4 in conference play. The Sooners are 4-5 in the Big 12 and Porter Moser desperately needs a statement win against a quality opponent like Cougars. The Sooners are 32nd in the NCAA's Net Rankings but are just 2-4 in Quad 1 games. Another Quad 1 win will bolster OU's case for an at-large bid.
After that matchup, Oklahoma gets somewhat of a reprieve from the heavyweights of the conference to face one of its most heated rivals, 10-12 (2-7) Oklahoma State. In terms of quality of opponent, Saturday’s matchup is a step down, but that doesn’t mean it will be easy, rivalries never are.
