Want to feel old? Oklahoma just offered this NFL legend’s son in the Class of 2027

Brent Venables and the Sooners just offered Jason Witten's younger son Cooper who is a Class of 2027 linebacker in Texas.

On June 8, Oklahoma became the first school to offer Cooper Witten, son of NFL legend and Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten. Cooper is a linebacker in the Class of 2027 and this summer he has fielded three FBS offers, first from Oklahoma, then from Missouri and UAB.

Cooper Witten plays at Argyle Liberty Christian and in 2023 he recorded 82 tackles, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions. He is yet to be ranked, but with multiple FBS offers heading into his sophomore year of high school, the 6-foot-2 210-pound prospect, with quite a notable name, will be highly regarded by evaluators.

His father, Jason, is from Elizabethton, Tennessee, and played for the Vols from 2000-02 before becoming a third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys. In his final season at Tennessee, the now 42-year-old Witten caught 39 passes for 493 yards and five touchdowns, however, his son has chosen to play on the other side of the ball.

On his 14-0 State Championship team, Cooper Witten, was named first-team All-State, no small feat in Texas.

Cooper isn’t the only Witten being recruited out of Argyle Texas. His older brother CJ is a Class of 2025 linebacker who at 6-foot-1 215 pounds has offers from Army, Navy, Arkansas State, Houston Christian, Lamar, Missouri State, and UTEP. He is also a zero-star recruit.

While it’s unlikely that his older brother will get a call from their father’s alma mater, Cooper will almost certainly be recruited by Tennessee. While his recruitment is a long way from over, it won’t hurt that Brent Venables and the Sooners were the first to offer the son of a legend.
