Sooners still on 2025 recruiting trail, favored to flip 4-star LB commit

The month of September was not a good month for Oklahoma 2025 football recruiting. Within a couple of weeks of each other, the Sooner lost commitments from two defensive line prospects.

Earlier in September, DL commit Floyd Bouchard decommitted from OU, and a week and a half later Ka'Mori Moore announced he was reopening his recruitment.

The Sooners currently have just one D-line commitment (Trent Wilson) in the 2025 class, plus a couple of edge rushers (Alexander Shieldnight and CJ Nickson), so they will continue to work one of two more defensive lineman before finishing off the 2025 class.

In the meantime, though, Oklahoma is still looking to boost its defensive strength for the future, and this past week OU offered four-star linebacker Kaleb Burns, who is currently committed to Baylor. Also this week, the Sooners earned a "favored" projection from On3 recruiting analyst Josh McCuiston for Burns to eventually land at Oklahoma. This comes at a good time for the Sooners, who do not have a linebacker currently among their 2025 class commitments.

The 6-foot, 220-pound Burns is rated the No. 146 player overall in the 2025 class nationally by On3, the No. 30 linebacker and a top-50 player in the state of Texas. What's interesting, and frankly a little concerning, about Burns' recruitment is that if he, in fact, elects to decommit from Baylor it will be the second time he has backed off a pledge.

Burns, who is from the Houston area, committed to Texas Tech on July 1, and 30 days later he flipped that commitment to the head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears.

Besides the Oklahoma offer to four-star linebacker prospect, it has been reported that Oregon is also interested in Burns.

Circling back to the Bouchard decommitment from the Sooners, adding insult to injury, it was announced this week that Bouchard had committed to Lincoln Riley and USC. In speaking to reporters afterwards, Bouchard said, " I really feel like even when I committed (to Oklahoma), they (USC) recruited me even heavier. My relationship with Lincoln Riley grew stronger."

Just one more mark in a growing list of vengeful acts Sooner fans hold against the former head coach OU fans now simply refer to as "Muleshoe."

Oklahoma's 2025 recruiting class, which totals 21 commitments, currently ranks 11th by both 247Sports and On3 and 7th by Rivals.
