Sooners hoping to land their highest-rated O-lineman in last 13 recruiting classes
By Chip Rouse
Oklahoma has three offensive line commitments as part of its 2025 recruiting and has its sights set on at least one more elite O-line prospect before closing out this cycle.
Five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi, from Lewisville, Texas, is set to announce his commitment choice between five high-profile suitors, including Oklahoma, one week from now on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
It is no secret that the offensive line is one of the most important yet underrated components of any college football team, and the Oklahoma Sooners have been blessed to field a number of elite O-lines under the expertise and leadership of Bill Bedenbaugh.
Now in his 12th season as the offensive line coach at OU, Bedenbaugh has placed 13 former Sooners at the next level via the NFL Draft.
Considered to be one of the very best in the college ranks at his craft, Bedenbaugh was faced this offseason with perhaps his most difficult task in his dozen seasons in Norman, having to replace all five starting spots on the Sooners' offensive line. Through the ready help of the plentiful transfer portal, just may have assembled an offensive line group that could be stronger and more formidable than what Oklahoma has had the past couple of seasons.
The reason: two and three years of starting experience at the major FBS level. And with several elite OL prospects on the way, both for the 2024 season and in the immediate future.
Fasusi will choose between offers from five major programs -- Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri, Oregon and OU -- four of which are SEC schools. Listed at 6-foot, 5 inches and 300 pounds, Fasusi is rated as the No. 3 offensive tackle and No. 12 player overall nationally in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
It has been reported that Fasusi has already made his decision but will not disclose what it is until the public announcement on Aug. 21. The final choice is believed to be between Oklahoma and Texas.
If the Sooners are successful in picking up Fasusi's commitment, he would become the highest-rated offensive lineman to select Oklahoma in Bedenbaugh's 12 seasons in Norman. He would join fellow OU 2025 offensive line commits Ryan Fodje, a four-star prospect from Cypress, Texas, four-star guard Darius Afalava from Utah , and three-star center Owen Hollenbeck from Melissa, Texas
If Oklahoma were to lose out in Fasusi's recruitment, the Sooners would probably redirect their attention to five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola out of the Kansas City area. Babalola lists at 6-foot-6, 300 pounds, and ranks right behind Fasusi, No. 4 at his position nationally, He is considering offers from several SEC schools, including Missouri, Auburn and Alabama, as well as Michigan and Stanford.
