Oklahoma men's basketball coach Porter Moser picked up a commitment from highly touted combo point guard Jeremiah Fears. The commitment by Fears not only represents the the highest rated recruit of Moser's now fourth season at OU, but the second best Sooner recruit of the last couple of decades . Only Trae Young (2017) rated higher.

The 6-foot, 3-inch Fears originally committed to Illinois as a 2025 prospect, but decommitted on July 1, reopening his recruitment. And he immediately received a flood of high-level interest from such national powers Kentucky, UConn, Kansas, Tennessee, Arizona among others.

In making his commitment announcement on social media, Fears also said he is reclassifying to the 2024 recruiting cycle. A native of Joliet, Illinois, Fears played his junior high school season at Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona. He ranked as the No. 6 combo guard nationally as a 2025 prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.

Fears is considered one of the top scorers in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. He averaged 17 points and 2.9 assists playing for the Indy Heat in the 2024 spring and summer league.

Moser has made an unintended habit out of having to rebuild an entire roster every season since becoming OU head coach replacing the retired Lon Kruger in April 2021. The pledge from Fears, gives the Sooners nine new players (seven transfers and three players in the 2024 recruiting class) that weren't on OU's 2023-24 roster

Moser lost eight players off of last season's 20-12 Sooner team, including five of the team's six top scorers. The only returning players with substantial playing time from last season's roster are 6-foot-10 F/C fifth-year senior Sam Godwin, 6-foot-7 senior Jalon Moore and 6-foot-11 sophomore Luke Northweather
