Oklahoma softball's Cydney Sanders honored as Big 12 Player of Week

Oklahoma softball junior first baseman Cydney Sanders is the Big 12 Player of the Week for March 5-12. She was also honored as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Player of the Week.
In four games this past week, Sanders reached base 10 times in 12 plate appearances. She was five of seven in official at bats, a .714 batting average, and all five hits were for extra bases, including four home runs. She also drew five walks in her 12 plate appearances.
The former Arizona State transfer, recorded an impressive slash line (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage) of .714/.822/2.571). Her eight home runs through games of March 10 ranked her in the top 10 nationally.
The slugging Sooner first baseman entered this week leading NCAA Division I softball in on-base-plus-slugging percentage (1.630) and ranks third in slugging percentage (1.051). Her eight home runs ranks second in the Big 12, and her .579 on-base percentage is fourth best in the conference.
In nine games during the month of March, Sanders is batting .600 with six home runs and 15 runs batted in. She has a 1:8 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a slugging percentage of 1.933. She earns a walk approximately once every four trips to the plate.
Joining Sanders as a Big 12 honoree this week is RyLee Crandall of Baylor, Pitcher of the Week. Sanders is the second Oklahoma player to receive Big 12 weekly honors this season. Oklahoma State transfer Kelly Maxwell was named Pitcher of the Week on Feb 13 following the opening week of the 2024 season.
