The Oklahoma football program reportedly is in a very strong position to land a commitment from 2026 four-star quarterback prospect Dereon Coleman.

Coleman is from Orlando, Florida, in the heart of SEC country, and is ranked by Rivals as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2026 class, the No. 25 prospect in the talent-rich Sunshine State and the No. 132 recruit overall nationally.

He holds multiple scholarship offers, including such programs as Ole Miss, Nebraska, Arkansas, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma and others.

Oklahoma earned five predictions to reel in Coleman's commitment from college football recruiting analysts in February and received a couple more after the prized QB recruit made an unofficial visit to OU recently. It's still very early in the 2026 recruiting cycle -- Coleman will only be in his junior year of high school this fall -- but things are looking very positive at this stage for the Florida native to become a Sooner.

Andrew Ivins, director of scouting for 247Sports, reported recently that Coleman had a very impressive workout at the Elite 11 regional quarterback competition in Florida. Here is some of what he wrote about Coleman's performance:

"Coleman had by far the livest arm of the day. He may not be the biggest passer (just under 6-feet tall), but there were times when the ball just jumped out of his hands."

"Coleman is an athletic dual-threat quarterback. He throws with great accuracy and is able to make plays when under pressure," writes John Williams of Sooners Wire, and Oklahoma-dedicated website affiliated with the USA Today network.

The Sooners have only one commit so far for 2026: four-star running back Jonathan Hatton Jr. Oklahoma has two quarterbacks signed for its 2024 class (Michael Hawkins Jr. and Brendan Zurbrugg) and three-star QB prospect Kevin Sperry from Denton (Texas) Guyer High School (same high school as Jackson Arnold) is committed for 2025.
