Oklahoma's football recruiting through the transfer portal is currently at 11 for the 2024 roster.
The Sooners picked up a quality tight end on Monday with former Baylor TE Jake Roberts committing to OU.
Tight end was a position of concern for Oklahoma last season both in terms of talent and depth. The Sooners' tight end group combined for 252 receiving yards this past season. That is the lowest number from that position group since the 2014 season.
Former Sooner recruit Austin Stogner returned to OU for one final season in 2023 and manned the tight end position for most of the season, with limited production. Behind him were Blake Smith (now in the transfer portal), Kaden Helms and Jason Llewellyn (also in the transfer portal). The latter two were injured most of the season.
For this reason, the addition of Roberts is a big deal. The Sooners also have former Southeaster Louisiana tight end Bauer Sharp committed to the program for 2024 along with four-star recruit Davon Mitchell.
Roberts caught 23 passes for 231 receiving yards for Baylor this season. He spent three years at North Texas before that under new OU offensive coordinator Seth Littrell as head coach. While at North Texas, Roberts made 43 catches for 541 yards.
The 6-foot, 5-inch, 248-pound Roberts is a native of Norman and went to high school at Norman North. So with two years of eligibility remaining, Roberts gets to finish his college career with his hometown team and the school he grew up rooting for.
Roberts is the older brother of Nate Roberts, a four-star tight end in the class of 2025 that the Sooners are recruiting.
