Oklahoma football took steps to address its depth issue at tight end by picking up a transfer commitment from Bauer Sharp.

Sharp played the last two years at Southeastern Louisiana. He had 28 catches on 38 targets this season for 288 yards and three touchdowns. According to Pro Football Focus, Sharp was the third-highest graded FCS tight end this season.

The tight-end position has been an issue for Oklahoma this season. Austin Stogner was the lead TE on the roster this season, but his eligibility ends after the 2023 season. Redshirt-junior Blake Smith, who transferred to OU from Texas A&M after the 2022 season, saw very limited action as the backup tight end this season. The Sooners have several other players who can play the position, but they are young and inexperienced.

This is why the Sooners are seriously looking to fill this position need before beginning play in the SEC next season. OU also has a four-star tight-end prospect, Davon Mitchell, committed as part of the 2024 recruiting class.

A native of Dothan, Alabama, Sharp began his college career at Southeast Louisiana as a quarterback before converting to tight end ahead of his redshirt-freshman season. In addition to his 29 receptions this past season, he posted 133 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

The 6-foot, 5-inch tight end is the fifth transfer addition to the 2024 Oklahoma roster. He joins OL Spencer Brown from Michigan State, WR Deion Burks from Purdue, CB Dezjhon Malone from San Diego State and RB Samuel Franklin from the University of Tennessee-Martin.
