While summer recruiting for the Class of 2025 is well underway, Brent Venables and Oklahoma have waited to bring the top high school players to Norman for official visits. Oklahoma’s biggest recruiting weekend will be June 14th when seven players are in town, including two five-star recruits, however, the first official visit of the summer will take place on Friday, June 7 with four-star tight end Da’Saahn Brame.

Oklahoma has already received commitments from 15 players in the 2025 class and the Sooners so far, have the third-best class in the nation. That class, while it features two wide receivers is yet to include a traditional tight end.

In Jeff Lebby’s air raid offense last season, Austin Stogner was the lone tight end featured in the offense, hauling in 17 of his 23 targets and lining up as an inline tight end for 196 passing snaps. However, with Blake Smith and Kade McIntyre receiving five combined targets all season, and the offensive play-calling duties being handed to Seth Littrell with Lebby taking over as the head coach at Mississippi State, Venables has been prioritizing tight end talent.

This offseason, Oklahoma has added three tight ends to replace Stogner’s production, signing Davon Mitchell from California as a part of the 2024 high school class and bringing in two transfers, Jake Roberts from Baylor and Bauer Sharp from Southeastern Louisiana.

Though 247 Sports has a “crystal ball” prediction for Brame to commit to Oregon, his visit on Friday appears to be a continuation of this trend for Venables and his coaching staff which may create more offensive versatility with two-tight end sets. Brame’s top five also includes Ole Miss, LSU, and Tennessee.
