Former Sooner WR Drake Stoops selected by his dad's Arlington Renegades in 2024 UFL Draft

Former Oklahoma wide receiver and fan favorite Drake Stoops was selected by the Arlington Renegades, with the 10th overall pick, in the 2024 United Football League Draft on Wednesday.
The draft selection could unite Stoops with his father, Bob Stoops, the former Oklahoma head coach who is now coaching the Renegades in the UFL.
Drake is set to attend training camp for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football league, beginning on July 23 at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He signed with the Rams this spring as an undrafted free agent.
Drake's dream, like most college players, is to play in the NFL. So his immediate priority is to try to make the Rams' roster. If that doesn't work out, however, and he isn't able to catch on with another NFL team, it is good to know he also has the option of playing professionally for his dad, with the Renegades owners of the younger Stoops' UFL rights
Stoops, who began his career at OU in 2018 as a walk-on and was awarded a scholarship in 2021. He led Oklahoma in receiving last season with a career-high 84 catches for 962 yards and 10 touchdowns in 13 games and was an All-Big 12 First-Team selection. In a six-year career in Norman, he recorded 164 receptions for 1,876 yards and 17 touchdown catches, which ranks 13th among Oklahoma career receiving leaders.
"Stoops was a high-producing receiver," current Sooner head coach Brent Venables said last week. It didn't matter what you asked the guy to do, whether that was beat someone on an over route, get open on an underneath crosser, something like that, Drake would make all the competitive plays."
Bob Stoops just finished his third season coaching the Renegades. The Renegades won the UFL championship in 2023. The UFL is a springtime league.
