Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' next great weapon could come from the Oklahoma Sooners.
NFL.com's Chad Reuter in his four-round mock draft predicted the Chiefs to select OU wide receiver Deion Burks with the 74th overall pick in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft on April 23-25 in Pittsburgh. There's been a recent Norman-to-Kansas City pipeline, and the Chiefs also need to replace former OU receiver Hollywood Brown, who just joined forces with quarterback Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia.
Deion Burks headed to Kansas City Chiefs in latest mock draft
Reuter agrees with most other draft experts on Burks being a third-round pick after two seasons at OU and spending his first three years at Purdue. After transferring from Purdue in 2024, Burks played in just five games because of two different injuries, which ultimately led him to return for one more season of college football in 2025.
Last season as a senior for the Sooners, Burks caught 57 passes for 620 yards and four touchdowns while catching at least two passes in all 13 games. He averaged 10.9 yards a reception.
The biggest knock on Burks heading into the draft process was his size after coming in at 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine last month in Indianapolis. All of his other measurables at the NFL Combine were eye-popping, though, and only improved his stock, no matter how tall he is.
Burks blazed for a 4.3-second 40-yard dash, which was faster than any other wide receiver participating at the NFL Combine. He also led the position with a 42.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 11-inch broad jump.

Those numbers proved Burks has all the intangibles to be a stellar vertical threat in the NFL, which is the type of receiver that could especially thrive with Mahomes as QB1 in Kansas City. That offense was at its best with Tyreek Hill running deep, and unfortunately, Brown never reached his potential in Kansas City. But maybe Burks could after proving to be faster and is also younger with more development ahead.
