The Oklahoma Sooners made it a priority over the offseason to surround returning starting quarterback John Mateer with more weapons, and after months of waiting to see what Mateer can fire off with his new ammo, we won't have to wait another day.
The Sooners got good news on Friday, just hours before their season opener against UTEP, that, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel, new wide receiver Parker Livingstone will be available and make his OU debut after being in concussion protocol since last week. It was starting to feel like OU fans would have to wait another week before seeing Livingstone in crimson and cream until the recent update.

Oklahoma's passing attack will be fully healthy with Parker Livingstone available
Livingstone got to Norman this offseason after transferring from Texas, where he spent two years and was even roommates with quarterback Arch Manning. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian admitted at SEC Media Days this summer that the Longhorns forced Livingstone and multiple other players out of Austin to make room for more transfer portal additions.
That ultimately gifted the Sooners another talented receiver with size and speed for Mateer, who will also have extra motivation for the Red River Rivalry. Livingstone is listed at a lengthy 6-foot-3 and also has the speed to blow past secondaries.
Last season as a redshirt freshman, Livingstone caught 29 passes for 516 yards, with a team-high 17.8 yards per catch, and six touchdowns while appearing in all 13 games and making five starts. He redshirted in 2024 before breaking out last year.

The Sooners struggled to get explosive plays in 2025, especially in the passing game, as Mateer averaged 11.68 yards per completion. A healthy Mateer and improved throwing motion should improve that stat, but the biggest bump will come from the Sooners adding Livingstone and Virginia transfer Trell Harris to pair with returning top receiver Isaiah Sategna III. Sategna and Harris have the speed to make a huge play every time the ball is in their hands.
Sategna and Harris were listed as starters on OU's initial depth chart that was released on Monday, while Livingstone had an "OR" with Elijah Thomas at the X spot. If Livingstone really is fully healthy, then he will likely get the nod over Thomas on Friday night.
Thomas, though, should still get a lot of time at receiver after recording only one five-yard catch as a freshman last season. Considering it's his first real action at receiver, Thomas could stay out there later and even get more time than Sategna, Harris, and Livingstone. All three have experience Thomas is still needing to gain.
Having Livingstone out there so Mateer has all of his weapons in Week 1 will be significant in Mateer building that in-game chemistry before taking on a much tougher defense when the Sooners travel to play No. 16 Michigan next week. This also means that the Sooners should routinely get chunk plays in the passing game, even while not trying to do anything special.
It might be watered down some, but OU fans will still get a real taste of the Sooners' passing game Friday night to get an idea of what it could look like for the rest of the season.
