The Oklahoma Sooners this season are letting fans pay to go where people are working.
OU recently announced a new experience where fans can pay a hefty $692.11 for postgame media access to a press conference, which would include Brent Venables and OU players. One ticket covers two people.
"Get exclusive postgame media access for you and one guest and see where real-time reactions unfold," OU said in its release. "Hear OU coaches and players address reporters moments after the final whistle. Watch the story take shape through the questions, the insights, and the atmosphere that set the headlines."

This certainly seems like a once-in-a-lifetime experience for some fans that I'm sure the media takes for granted after getting to do it on a weekly basis. Fans get to be feet away from coaches and players, and go to a place they've never been before. You would definitely have stories to tell at work on Monday. However, I've been to countless press conferences, and none were worth admission.
OU streams all of its press conferences on YouTube or its website, so fans really wanting to hear Venables' 20-minute opening statement can listen there for free. The description also doesn't mention anything about being able to ask your own questions, which is the biggest advantage of actually being in the room. Can you imagine what angry fans would have yelled at Venables last year while going 6-7? Or poor Jackson Arnold?
Many people on social media took notice of OU's new fan experience, and few argued it wouldn't be neat for fans, but none found the price tag for this premium viewing experience worth it.
Paying $700 to hear a head coach say “I’m so proud of our guys for the way they fought” 4 different ways is wild https://t.co/gpCVT3j02h

Let’s be real, those aren’t as entertaining as they used to be 😂 https://t.co/ImIReHUqOt

Paying 700 bucks to hear the coach talk about how the boys just need to execute better and it comes down to the fundamentals is some next level sicko stuff https://t.co/73PDyhkSME

What’s next? For a few hundred more you can follow the writers back up to the press box and watch us transcribe and write while hunched over our laptops with the posture/temperament of a crustacean? https://t.co/QOrFv3k2gd

Downsides: idiots disrupting beat writers’ ability to do their jobs effectively

Upsides: A hero, 28 beers deep, ripping a heater on a coach who punted from the +39 in a one score loss https://t.co/xfC8fFo5e0
I love this job, and the access it provides.

But if anybody considers paying nearly $700 for this experience, I’d like to talk them out of it. https://t.co/rfehHZyve7
paying to sit in your favorite team's post-game press conference and sighing loudly repeatedly until someone asks you what's wrong after a loss https://t.co/xUc3UKWrAI
