On3 on Thursday released a way-too-early top 100 college football players for the 2026 season list, and although four Oklahoma players expectedly made the group, it was more of a surprise for which Sooners apparently didn't make the cut.

Defensive tackle David Stone, linebacker Kip Lewis, defensive end Taylor Wein and wide receiver Isaiah Sategna made the list to represent Oklahoma, but the likes of quarterback John Mateer, defensive tackle Jayden Jackson and kicker Tate Sandell were all completely overlooked.

Jayden Jackson and John Mateer among snubs from On3's list

Stone led the pack at the No. 20 spot, followed by Lewis at 47, Wein at 58 and Sategna at 62. All are returning starters from the Sooners' 2025 squad that went 10-3 and earned a spot in the College Football Playoff.

However, the high regard On3 had for Stone makes Jackson a clear snub. Both got to OU in 2024 as high-level recruits that got immediate playing time at the same position, but it was Jackson, not Stone, that cracked the starting lineup as a freshman in 2024. This past season as sophomores, the duo was on par with each other as Stone had more tackles, but Jackson tallied more sacks.

That's not to say Stone isn't deserving, because he certainly is of that top-20 respect, but it's proof that Jackson also is since he's in no way 80+ spots worse than Stone.

Mateer was also a shocking miss, even if many fans would argue he was rightfully left off. Heading into the 2025 season, On3 ranked Mateer as the 65th best player in college football. Even after a disappointing season while playing through multiple injuries, that's still quite the tumble for Mateer when the expectation is for him to be healthier and better in Year 2 as a Sooner.

The third notable snub was Sandell, who would be a lock on the list if he played any other position. Sandell in 2025 was named winner of the Lou Groza Award as the best kicker in college football and was one of the most important players for the Sooners' success. If anyone else on OU's roster makes a top-100 list, then Sandell should too.
