Top-ranked Oklahoma women's gymnastics recorded its third win over a top-5 opponent this season while going over the elite 198 level for the third straight week in defeating No. 5 Florida on Friday in Gainesville.
The Sooners' 198.075-197.575 victory over a nationally prominent team like Florida is impressive enough. The fact that it was accomplished on the Gators' home floor elevates the win that much more. It marked the first time in program history Oklahoma beat Florida in Gainesville.
OU proves unstoppable with statement win at Florida
OU won three of the four team events, highlighted by a perfect 10 by sophomore Addison Fatta in the anchor position on vault. The Sooners posted high team scores on vault, floor exercise and a season-best score of 49.700 on the balance beam, with no individual counted score lower than 9.90. OU freshman Ella Murphy posted the best individual score on beam with a career-best and near-perfect 9.975.
In addition to her perfect score on vault, OU's Fatta was the all-around champion in Friday's dual competition with Florida, earning a score of 39.575.
With four team scores of 198 or higher this season and a 10-0-1 record overall, Oklahoma remained in the No. 1 spot in the national rankings for the fourth straight week. This is the first week for National Qualifying Score (NQS) calculations, which is the primary measurement for determining postseason qualifications and selections.
The top five teams nationally based on NQS are Oklahoma (197.900), LSU (197.688). Alabama (197.475), Florida (197.456) and UCLA (197.405). The Sooners have already defeated Alabama, UCLA and Florida this season and tied LSU in the season-opening Sprouts Farmer's Market Collegiate Quad.
Through seven weeks of the season, Oklahoma ranks No. 1 nationally on vault and beam, fourth on the floor and No. 5 on bars.
Six of the Sooners' 10 wins this season were against teams ranked in the top 10 and eight in the top 25.
OU will have the opportunity to settle that season-opening tie with LSU when the two schools go head-to-head in a much-anticipated dual competition at Lloyd Noble Center on Friday.
