Upsets are usually fun, unless you're the ones getting upset.

The Oklahoma women's basketball team fell to Mississippi State 81-77 on Thursday night in Starkville. The Sooners entered the game as a top-10 team at No. 10, while the Bulldogs were unranked but on the outside looking in while receiving votes.

Despite it being a major upset, the victory actually gave Mississippi State more wins than the Sooners on the season at 14-3. OU dropped to 13-3.

The Bulldogs went into the half with a slim 33-32 lead before the Sooners immediately retook the lead when the second half started. Things then went back and forth the rest of the way.

Mississippi State finally got a 74-72 advantage with 41 seconds left thanks to a pair of free throws from Eniya Russell. The Bulldogs then controlled things the rest of the way to secure the upset.

As usual, Raegan Beers led the Sooners with 19 points and also pulled in 10 rebounds to notch a double-double. Payton Verhulst added 15, and Liz Scott came off the bench to score 12.

After starting the season 12-1 after their nonconference schedule, the Sooners have began SEC play 1-2 after Thursday's loss. The matchup with Missisippi State was OU's first conference game against an unranked opponent. The Sooners started SEC play with a loss to No. 5 Texas, then beat No. 15 Tennessee.

Next, the Sooners will host Texas A&M at 4 p.m. CT Sunday at Lloyd Noble Center. The Aggies are struggling at 8-7 so should be a good chance for OU to rebound from the upset.
