The Oklahoma Sooners are using an old connection to get a jumpstart in hopefully landing a 2028 target.
Interior offensive lineman Jace Montgomery, the son of longtime college football and NFL coach Jerry Montgomery, announced on Saturday that he received an offer from the Sooners after visiting Norman for OU's spring game.

Jace, listed at 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds at the end of his sophomore year, is currently unranked and unrated by every major recruiting service out of Archbishop Moeller High School in Ohio, but it's still extremely early in the process for 2028 prospects, so that will eventually change soon.
OU joined a list of offers to Jace that so far also includes Iowa, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Bowling Green, Kent State, Liberty and in-state Miami (OH). Don't let that lackluster list of offers lead you to believe OU is after a scrub, though. The Sooners are just early, partly thanks to their prior connection, on a rising prospect with more Power Four offers headed his way with the programs like Indiana also interested. That early belief always pays off in landing a recruit.
Jace's dad, Jerry, spent two seasons with the Sooners as a defensive line coach in 2013-14 during his 23-year coaching career. Jerry was part of a staff under Bob Stoops that also included offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, who's now recruiting his son today.
Jerry is now at the NFL level as the Cincinnati Bengals' defensive line coach and run game coordinator. He actually made the jump to the NFL after leaving OU. His previous NFL stops included the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers. He also served as a defensive line coach for Michigan, Indiana, Wyoming and Northern Iowa. While at Indiana, Jerry worked for head coach Kevin Wilson, who is now assistant head coach for offense at OU while mostly helping with the offensive line.
Although from Ohio, Jace has a lot of connections to lead him to Oklahoma through his dad as the Sooners are still hunting their first 2028 commit after running back Micah Rhodes decommitted as the only pledge.
