The Oklahoma Sooners hope the third time is the charm for defensive tackle Bishop Thomas.
Thomas on Monday committed to the Sooners out of the Transfer Portal from Georgia State, according to On3, after other previous stops at Florida State and Colorado. He will have one year of eligibility left.
Georgia State's Bishop Thomas commits to Sooners out of Transfer Portal
Thomas is coming off his best season yet with Georgia State, where he transferred to in 2024 and appeared in only three games before playing in all 12 this season. In 2025, Thomas, listed at 6-foot-2 and 290 pounds, recorded 48 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a pass breakup.
Prior to Georgia State, Thomas was at Colorado for one season in 2023, during which he had six tackles, two TFLs and a fumble recovery in nine games. He transferred to Colorado from Florida State, where he signed as a three-star recruit from Bishop Moore Catholic in Florida in the 2022 class. Rivals was even higher on Thomas and gave him four stars. He ultimately saw action in just two games for Florida State as a freshman.
The Sooners weren't looking for a defensive tackle that could immediately come in and start with David Stone and Jayden Jackson having those spots locked, but they do need a depth piece that produces more than Thomas has in the past at this level for the defensive front to be at the same level as this past season.
Behind Stone and Jackson at the position, no other player has real experience outside of garbage time or special teams, and Thomas is the only portal addition there so far. OU also got Kenny Ozowalu from UTSA, but he will likely play on the edge. The rest of OU's depth at the interior right now includes one senior in David Rowaiye, who has never played, and five players classified as a sophomore or younger.
