After just rising and rising and rising this season in the both major national polls, the Oklahoma Sooners took the hardest fall of anyone Week 8 rankings.
The Sooners dropped further than anyone else in the Associated Press Top 25 and tied with Oregon for the biggest dip in the Coaches Poll after losing to Texas 23-6 on Saturday in Dallas for their first deficit of the season to drop to 5-1.
OU drops in AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll after loss to Texas
OU plummeted eight spots in the AP Top 25 from No. 6 to No. 14 for Week 8. In the Coaches Poll, the Sooners went from No. 6 to No. 13. Oregon and OU both suffered seven slots in Coaches Poll, with the Ducks going to No. 9.

Last week, Texas made ugly history by becoming the quickest team ever in the AP Top 25 to go from preseason No. 1 to unranked after losing to unranked Florida to drop to 3-2. But after beating OU, the Longhorns are back in the rankings at No. 21 and as high as No. 17 in the Coaches Poll.
The Sooners will travel to South Carolina on Saturday for another unranked matchup, but after that, every team left on OU’s schedule is in the top 20 of the most recent AP Top 25.
That end-of-the-season run includes No. 5 Ole Miss, at No. 11 Tennessee, at No. 6 Alabama, No. 16 Missouri and No. 10 LSU.
That’s plenty of opportunity for the Sooners to maintain themselves as College Football Playoff contenders. OU also needs to add another resume booster since both of its ranked wins — Michigan and Auburn — are no longer in either top 25.
