The Oklahoma Sooners could get their next star from L.A.
UCLA left-handed two-way star Kaitlyn Terry recently entered the transfer portal after helping get the Bruins to the Women's College World Series this season. As soon as the news broke of Terry's decision on Wednesday, former OU standout Kinzie Hansen immediately realized where Terry would be a great fit.
UCLA's Kaitlyn Terry is in transfer portal and seems like a great fit for Sooners
The Sooners need to replace ace Sam Landry, who transferred from Louisiana last year and was at OU just one season, and Patty Gasso has been using the transfer portal to get the Sooners' aces recently, including one-and-done players Landry and Kelly Maxwell from Oklahoma State the past two seasons. OU has young, talented pitchers already for next season, but could still use a reliably experienced arm to immediately step up as ace to remain a national contender.
We recently listed five pitchers in the transfer portal who the Sooners should pursue, but that was before Terry made her decision to leave UCLA. However, LSU's Sydney Berzon could still be OU's top choice.
There's one benefit Terry has over the rest, though: another year of eligibility. All of OU's other viable portal options would be another one-and-done quick filler. Terry, though, just finished her sophomore season and still has two years of eligibility left.
Terry had a 20-5 record and 2.64 ERA with 172 strikeouts in 2025 as a sophomore. In 2024, she was Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-Pac-12. She's also a weapon at the plate with a .256 average this season.
During the 2025 WCWS, Terry made two starts, combining for 12 innings and giving up five earned runs between the two outings. She notched a complete-game one-run gem in a win against Oregon in the first round.
Terry would not only get to OU with two stellar seasons under her belt, but also valuable WCWS experience.
