Oklahoma was one of eight teams that moved on to match play, the final phase in the 2025 NCAA Men's Golf Championship in Carlsbad, California.
The Sooners finished fifth in the 72-hole stroke play portion of the NCAA Tournament, shooting even-par 360, one shot back of in-state Bedlam rival Oklahoma State and 14 strokes behind stroke play champion Arizona State, which took the top seed into the match play quarterfinals on Tuesday.
OU took the 5-seed into its quarterfinal match against the Cowboys of Oklahoma State, who are seeded fourth. This marks the first time two in-state rivals have faced each other in NCAA match play.
It's Bedlam in match play of NCAA Men's Golf Championship
The Sooners are making their seventh match-play appearance since 2016, the most of any program over that span, and first since 2022.
The Sooners, who led the field after the first 18 holes at the Omni La Costa Golf Club and Resort and was 10-under-par and in second place behind Arizona State after 36 holes, bloomed to 10-over-par the next two rounds, but still managed to finish 11 shots better than the plus-11 cutline for the top eight teams that remain in the championship field.
Two Sooners in freshman Clark Van Gaalen and senior Drew Goodman were named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team for finishing in the top 15 in stroke play. Van Gaalen finished 13th among the individual leaders at 2-under-par and Goodman was 15th at minus-1.
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will go head to head over 18 holes on the par-72 Omni La Costa North Course beginning at 9:40 a.m. CT Tuesday with the winner of the match advancing to face either No. 1 Arizona State or No. 8 Ole Miss in the semifinals on Tuesday afternoon.
