A tweet, DNA and the Oklahoma City Thunder could lead to the Oklahoma Sooners' next addition to their football roster.

Oklahoma on Tuesday offered transfer tight end Josiah Jefferson days after OU general manager Jim Nagy's viral tweet about the Thunder's Alex Caruso prompted Sooner legend Tony Jefferson to endorse his younger brother.

Caruso has emerged as a fan-favorite in OKC during the NBA Playoffs for his tenacious defense and willingness to do whatever it takes for his team to win. During the Thunders' win against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, Nagy posted a picture of Caruso and wrote "OU is looking for football equivalent of this dude in recruiting. #baller"

The eventual viral post caught the attention of Tony Jefferson, who played safety for the Sooners in 2010-12 before an NFL career that's still going. Jefferson was a Freshman All-American in 2010 and First-Team All-Big 12 in 2012.

With Nagy on the lookout for the Sooners' next addition, Tony Jefferson suggested his brother, Josiah Jefferson, a tight end at Southwestern College, a junior college in California.

Josiah Jefferson is a monster at 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, and he certainly has all the intangibles to succeed in the SEC with a 40-inch vertical and the same DNA as an NFL player. Part the 2026 class, he also has offers from Arizona, Boise State and Utah, while drawing interest from multiple other Power Four programs, including Oklahoma State.

Nagy apparently noticed Tony Jefferson's endorsement and reached out. Two days later, Nagy shared Jefferson's comment and wrote, "It was good catching up today, Tony." Then five days after that conversation, Josiah Jefferson announced his OU offer and particularly mentioned Nagy.

The Sooners don't have a tight end for the 2026 class yet, and so far all of their commitments are from the high school ranks. And to add even more talent to the group, Nagy is again looking for player molds based off NBA All-Stars on the best team in the NBA.
