A new weekly staple at Stormin In Norman, here's news you might have missed about your Sooners, with an emphasis on non-revenue sports that might get overlooked, especially in the midst of football season.

Volleyball notches OU another Red River Rivalry win

Nearly the entire state of Oklahoma, and the state below, watched Tate Sandell's 47-yard field goal go through at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday for the Sooners to take down No. 1 Texas 27-24, but that wasn't the only Red River Rivalry win of the weekend for the good guys.

The next day, the unranked OU women's volleyball team (sound familiar?) upset No. 9 Texas, sweeping the Longhorns in straight sets (25-23, 25-18, 30-28) on Sunday at McCasland Field House. And that still might not have even been the team's biggest win of the week.

On Wednesday, just four days before, OU also took down No. 12 and defending national champion Texas A&M in a match that went five sets (17-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 15-11). It was OU's first win over a ranked opponent at home since beating No. 20 Tennessee on Sept. 29, 2024.

OU (10-4 overall, 3-2 SEC) will now have a shot at a third straight ranked win, with No. 4 Kentucky coming to Norman on Friday night.

Sooners snubbed in AP Top 25 Poll

There was belief that even at 3-2, upsetting the No. 1 team in the country would be enough to get the Sooners back inside the AP Top 25 Poll after being left out since after Week 3, but apparently voters didn't think so.

Oklahoma was nowhere to be found in the latest top 25 when it was released on Sunday, but it did receive 44 votes. The Sooners were also left out of the AFCA Coaches Poll with 50 votes.

Some might say "duh" about a 3-2 OU team with a still disappointing offense not being ranked, but the Sooners just endured the toughest start to the season in college football and actually have a better resume than multiple ranked teams above them.

A win over No. 11 Kentucky on Saturday, though, would certainly put a number back next to Oklahoma's name.

Men's tennis dominates ITA Central Regional Championship

The OU men's tennis team completely took over the ITA Central Regional Championship over the weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Sooners placed all four singles semifinalists for the first time and both singles finalists for the third straight year.

That dominance set up an all-Sooner between sophomore Johan Rodriguez and freshman Luciano Ambrogi, with the teammates earning co-champion honors and both punching their tickets to the NCAA Individual Championships.

Wrestling gets big stage and even bigger opponent at Lloyd Noble Center

For the first time since 2021, the OU wrestling team will leave McCasland Field House to host a dual at Lloyd Noble Center, and the Sooners picked the biggest challenge they could possibly get for the event.

OU will welcome five-time defending national champion Penn State on Sunday, Nov. 15. It's almost a guarantee the Nittany Lions will be ranked No. 1 when they come to Norman.

The Sooners don't really stand a chance against Penn State, but it's a great sign that maybe this new regime under athletic director Roger Denny is finally going to invest in the wrestling program and give it the spotlight it deserves for a chance to succeed.
