John Mateer earns early SEC award
Throughout the offseason, we heard a lot of doubt about quarterback John Mateer not being able to still produce with a big-time schedule, but just two weeks in after a huge victory over Michigan, Mateer is leading the Heisman Trophy race and on Monday was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week.
Mateer was magnificent in the Sooners' 24-13 win against Michigan on Saturday night in Norman. He accounted for 344 total yards between 270 through the air and 74 on the ground, which led OU. Mater also threw a TD to Deion Burks and ran for two more.
