Oklahoma's championship bid in the 2025 NCAA Men's Golf Championship came to a crushing end in a quarterfinals loss in match play on Tuesday to Bedlam rival Oklahoma State.

Sooners fall in Bedlam NCAA Men's Golf Championship showdown
Oklahoma State took an early lead in the national quarterfinal match, but the Sooners battled back and tried to make a late comeback. In the end, though, the momentum and advantage the 4-seed Cowboys gained in the early going proved to be too steep a climb.
Sophomore Ryder Cowan earned Oklahoma's lone full point in the quarterfinal match with a 3-and-2 win over OSU's Gaven Lane.
Sophomore PJ Maybank III opened up the quarterfinal round for the Sooners and had his match all-square after 16 holes but lost the final two holes to fall 2-down. Senior Drew Goodman, playing his final collegiate round, lost 3-and-2 to Ethan Fang of Oklahoma State.
Sooner junior Chase Summy, playing in the No. 3 match, had a chance late but lost 2-and-1 to Preston Stout, and freshman Clark Van Gaalen, who finished tied for 13th in the 72-hole stroke-play portion of the NCAA Championship, tied Oklahoma State's Eric Lee in the anchor spot for the Sooners, securing the other half point for Oklahoma.
The two-point winning margin by Oklahoma State was the largest of the three other quarterfinal matches. No. 3 Florida advanced to the national semifinals with a 3-2 win over No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Virginia ousted No. 2 Auburn 3-2 and No. 8 Ole Miss upset No. 1 Arizona State by the same 3-2 score.
This was the seventh time since 2016 that OU advanced to match play in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship, the most of any Division I program during that span.
The Oklahoma men ended the 2024-25 season with five tournament wins and their 52nd overall appearance in the NCAA Men's Tournament. It was head coach Ryan Hybl's 16th season at Oklahoma. The Sooners have won two national championships in men's golf in 1989 and 2017 and were the national runner-up in 2021.
