The Oklahoma Sooners are swooping in late to possibly cause some drama on the recruiting trail.

Linebacker Jacob Curry from the 2026 class announced on Tuesday a late offer from the Sooners. Curry has been committed to the Northwestern Wildcats since May 14.

Sooners offer Northwestern commit Jacob Curry

The Sooners are targeting Curry extremely late after he not only already announced his commitment, but official visit season has also already came and went. He took official visits to Northwestern and Louisville this summer.

However, Curry's commitment to Northwestern doesn't look to be solid. He still took his official visit to Louisville a month after his commitment. He's also posted about offers from OU and Baylor since he committed.

Even with the Sooners being late, they still have the advantage of being the prettiest girl at the party. Curry's other reported offers include Arkansas State, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Iowa State, Liberty, Memphis, New Mexico State, Pittsburgh, Toledo, South Florida, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky, Yale and other much smaller programs.

Curry's stock is on the rise, especially after an offer from OU. He's a consensus three-star recruit, and according to the 247Sports Composite, Curry is the No. 69 safety in the class from Nease High School in Florida. However, Rivals and On3 list him as a linebacker, and he recently jumped to being the No. 39 linebacker in Rivals' rankings.

Curry's versatility as a safety and linebacker could be what intrigued the Sooners for Curry to potentially play the hybrid cheetah position in Brent Venables' defensive system.

The Sooners already have a commitment from Niko Jandreau, who also plays safety and linebacker, and should slot in as a cheetah. Other linebacker commits from the 2026 class include four-star Jakore Smith and three-star Beau Jandreau, the twin brother of Niko.
