Former Oklahoma All-American Chris Gotterup fired a four-under-par, final-round 66 to win the Scottish Open by two strokes over five-time majors winner Rory McElroy over the weekend.

It was Gotterup's second career win on the PGA Tour in his third year as a touring professional. He won the ONEFlight Myrtle Beach Classic in 2024 by six shots. He was the co-leader after 54 holes in both tournaments.

Gotterup and McElroy were tied at 11-under-par after 54 holes entering Sunday's final round at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. The former Sooner got off to a rough start, bogeying the opening hole on Sunday to fall one back of McElroy, but he birdied the par-5 third hole while McElroy bogeyed the hole leading to a two-stroke swing that put Gotterup up by one.

With nine holes to go, Gotterup and McElroy were deadlocked at 13-under. Gotterup birdied the 10th to go back in the lead by a stroke and never relinquished the lead after that. He had three birdies and a bogey on the inbound nine. Meanwhile, McElroy played the back nine bogey free but in even par for a final-round, two-under 68.

Marco Penge from England equaled Gotterup's score of 66 in the final round to tie McElroy for second place.

"I feel like a lot of people say that the second one is harder just because you have expectations and whatnot," Gotterup told reporters afterward. "It's definitely more validation this week. Myrtle Beach was amazing, but this one, I've been talking to my team about I want to take the next step, and I feel that this is part of that."

The win earned Gotterup a place in The Open Championship next week at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland and also locked up a PGA Tour card for the next two seasons. He entered this week ranked No. 88 in the FedEx Cup standings. The Scottish Open win moved him all the way up to 39th.

Gotterup began his collegiate career at Rutgers in his home state of New Jersey, where he was the Big Ten Player of the Year in 2019-20, as well as First-Team All-Big Ten. He transferred to Oklahoma for his senior year in 2021-22. During the year at OU, Gotterup won both the Haskins Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award as the consensus top college player in the country.
