The Oklahoma men's golf team was in third place after 54 holes in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.
The Sooners are at 3-under-par through the first three rounds and one of 15 teams that advanced to one more 18-hole round of stroke play on Monday. The top eight teams after 72 holes will move on to match play on Tuesday and Wednesday to determine the 2025 national champion.
Oklahoma in 3rd place after 54 holes in NCAA Men's Golf Championship
The champion of the Amherst Regional and the No. 6 national seed, Oklahoma was one of 30 NCAA Division I teams that advanced out of the regional round. The Sooners made their 14th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship, all under head coach Ryan Hybl.
Oklahoma was in the lead (-8) after the first round of the NCAA Championship on Friday, but dropped back to second at minus-10, three shots back of Arizona State after Day 2 and 36 holes.
The top eight teams heading into the final round of stroke play included five SEC teams: Auburn (-10), Arizona State (-6), Oklahoma (-3), Florida (-1), Oklahoma State (+5), Texas A&M (+5), Texas (+5) and Florida State (+9).
OU freshman Clark Van Gaalen was tied for fourth on the player leaderboard at minus-5 (211) after 54 holes and senior Drew Goodman is 16th at even-par 216.
The Sooners are seeking their third national championship in men's golf. They won national titles in 1989 and 2017 and were national runner-up in 2021.
