Lucious Selmon, a former Oklahoma defensive line standout and the oldest of the celebrated Selmon brothers, was named to the Southeastern Conference's 2025 Football Legends class.

Selmon, now 74, played at Oklahoma from 1971 to 1973 and started 31 of 35 games. His senior season in 1973 he was named a unanimous First-Team All-American, as well as Big 8 Defensive Player of the Year and Chevrolet/ABC Defensive Player of the Year. Twice he was an All-Big 8 first-team selection.

The three seasons Selmon played at Oklahoma, the Sooners produced a combined record of 32-2-1 and won Big 8 championships in 1972 and 1973. Those three Oklahoma teams finished in the top 3 all three years in the final Associated Press poll: No. 2 in 1971 (11-1) and 1972 (11-1) and No. 3 in 1973 (10-0-1).

Selmon was selected by the New England Patriots in the 1974 NFL Draft and served as an Oklahoma assistant coach for 19 seasons in 1976-94, during which time the Sooners won nine Big 8 championships and a national championship in 1985. From 1995-2002, Selmon was an assistant coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL.

Selmon's two younger brothers, Lee Roy and Dewey, were also All-America defensive linemen at Oklahoma. All three brothers played on the 1973 Sooner team.

The 2025 SEC Football Legends class will be honored at the 2025 SEC Football "Weekend of Champions" on Dec. 5-6 in Atlanta.

SEC Football Legends is an annual awards program that honors outstanding former college players and coaches from each of the 16 SEC member schools. The program was introduced in 1994.

This being just the second year Oklahoma has been a member of the SEC, Selmon is the second OU representative to be honored. Former Sooner head coach Barry Switzer was named to the 2024 SEC Legends class.
